Betty & I went to Freedom School, and I got to know her around the 7th grade. She was always upbeat in spite of things going on around her. I remember her making me laugh all the time. One of the things she loved to do was to pretend to speak Japanese and she would just crack me up. I didn't have any classes with her in high school, so I didn't see her often thereafter. But I did see her once after high school, and she was already working and on her own. (And, here I was still trying to figure out what I was doing.) She wrote once she had met someone and I thought she had gotten married, but am not certain since it's been so long ago. I didn't know she had passed away, so it saddened me to see her name on this website.  As I remember her today, I have to smile for the way she made me laugh those many years ago.
