Like many people in High School, I did not always personally know them, but the impression was made by their presence in some way. I remember Aileen as being active and friendly and smart. RIP

Aileen and I go back to kindergarten at Freedom School, but it wasn’t until 5th grade we became friends. She was a lot of fun, always game to try new things. In high school we rode the bus in together, so we talked a lot. Once she mentioned about a kind thing Joe Richards had done and she was so taken. (As everyone has expressed, that was the effect Joe had.) Aileen and I carpooled all through Cabrillo. When Ronnie Huber was killed in that accident it hit us hard, just as Jan Proctor and Pat Gaither had reacted. After Cabrillo, Aileen went to Sacramento State and was always active in various causes. We kept in touch through college and a short time thereafter, but soon we lost touch. It was through my brother, who knows her cousin, I learned she had passed away after a lengthy illness. It saddened me I had lost contact and had not even known she had been ill.
