In Memory

James Vincent

19 November 2017by Stephanie Vincent, Organiser

It is 3 months today since Jim passed.

His ashes were shared with the nature up at Mt. Madonna County Park, Watsonville, so he is back to his roots and set free.

The bench is finally in place with plague engraved in his memory at Encinitas Community Park. If you are in the area, do stop by and visit with him on his bench.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of places now that accept memorial benches, so we will donate the rest of the funds to ALS in his memory.

Thank you for reaching out, and sharing your kind thoughts. Thank you for your support in keeping his memory alive through the bench and donation to ALS.

"The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness." ~John Muir

Jim respected and treasured the wondrous beauty of California.  He was an avid consumer of the national/state parks, the beloved mountains, beaches, forests and deserts.

Jim was naturally curious about the land, the politics, and the history of California and was eager to impart his wisdom and vast knowledge to those willing to listen.

Jim cherished his life long experiences with California nature and with that in mind, the family wishes to create a memorial bench (in lieu of flowers and memoriams) to be placed at one of his favorite sites (of which there are many)!

"To find the universal elements enough;
to find the air and the water exhilarating;
      to be refreshed by a morning walk
          or an evening saunter;
      to be thrilled by the stars at night;
          to be elated over a bird's nest
                or a wildflower in spring
- these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
    -John Burroughs, Naturalist (1837-1921)

I remember James as a quiet soul. Looking at his recent picture and the surroundings I can understand his love of nature, and of state parks. There is something soothing about nature even in its silence or a lone bird calling. There is so much to appreciate about our earth and we should do all we can to preserve it.

Please expect my deepest condolences at the loss of your husband, father, and friend to many. I will think of him now as I take a walk sit by the ocean and visit a state park.

With warmest regards,
Martha Souza Fagundes

I went to grammer school with Jim.  He was a quiet soul and very intelligent.  I'll always remember him in class as the very best oral reader.  He was able to ennunciate with perfection.  To this day, I remember that very clearly.  He was also very nice and respectful to everyone.  I believe we rode the bus together with so many other classmates.  We were all country kids, so I'm not surprised at his love of nature.  When you live in the country, you learn to respect, live and enjoy the environment.  I'm sorry to hear of his passing and am happy to know that he had a wonderful family.
