July 18th Meeting

Notes from Planning Meeting 7-18-15

Missing Classmates: Excellent job by Harold, Carmelita, and Terri finding classmates.  They started last year and have been relentless. The result is record breaking.   

 

Website: Thanks again 1) to Bill for his massive effort keeping the web site interesting; 2) to all that post content, you make it more interesting.  We hope those that haven’t posted a profile will do so soon, your classmates are curious about your 50 years since high school, and, of course, old photos, articles, etc. are fun.  This has been a great asset to share our journeys.

 

We were able to secure additional space at Seascape for Saturday night, large enough to accommodate 230 people. The deadline remains August 1st and there is a No Pay at the Door Policy.  YOUR REGISTRATION IS CONFIRMED ONLY BY A PAY PAL (credit card) PAYMENT OR A CHECK RECEIVED BY JIM LOPES BY AUGUST 1st

 

This will be our largest reunion ever; you don’t want to miss it.  REGISTER NOW!

Memorabilia:   Anyone wishing to provide memorabilia please contact Janelle Araldo Secondo.  We can use old posters, album covers, prom announcements/invitations, musical performances, etc. 

 

Nametag Use – The committee revisited the issue of using Nancy’s wonderful nametags twice (both Friday & Saturday).  After a quick discussion, the committee voted unanimously to use the nametags on Friday.  For those attending the “Welcome Reception” (“kegger” as Karen Kelley Lund describes it) Nancy’s nametags will be issued at that event, hold on to them for 24 hours, and bring them Saturday.  Those not attending Friday’s event will receive their nametags on Saturday.

Seascape Golf Course, Aptos:  Capacity is around 40.  The golf committee decided to allow non-class of ’65 players but they will not be eligible for any prizes.  John Sipin ’64 and Ralph Ramirez ’63 as well as Gary Walford’s two Aussie mates have been invited.  Manuel Hernandez ’63 is also playing.  John Ragsac will take pictures.  Dave Mercer & Ben Ragsac are working on the pairings.

9/18/15 Friday 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

 

“Welcome Reception”:  Sponsored by a group of classmates includes hosted beer and wine together with great appetizers from Monterey Bay Catering, a well regarded company in Watsonville.  Dress casual and bring your dancing shoes.  “Stroll” into the room, join in the “Bunny Hop” and then on to a little “Hokey Pokey’”.  We will announce the golf awards plus we have several surprises planned for the attendees.  You’ll want to be at this event to greet old friends and makes plans for the weekend. A sample of the menu was passed among the committee and will be posted to the web site.  At $15 per person, this is a bargain.  If you have only registered for Saturday evening, you can add Friday using the same process. 

 

Sue Harris, Sue Diamond Cooper, Janet Banovac and Barbara Fabry Serafin will staff the Registration Table.  Attendees will be given a picture badge which you will also use for Saturday night, don’t lose it.

 

Diana Cuddeford and Cindy Welch are working on the decorations and table centerpieces.  We’ll need volunteers on the 18th to set up t the Women’s Club.  Time will be determined at the next meeting.

 

Amy Newell pointed out that there is a no hard alcohol restriction at the Women’s Club and parking lot for Friday’s event, which will be enforced by the security firm.  If hard liquor is discovered, they’ll terminate our event immediately.  So please, NO HARD LIQUOR.  We’ll have plenty of beer and wine.

9/19/15 Saturday 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM

 

“50th Year Reunion Dinner/Dance, Watsonville High School Class of 1965”

 

Registration table: Nancy Putnam Carroll, Carmelita Javier Delano, Nancy Roark DePuy, and Jim Dugger.  Diana displayed coasters she is having made with “Willie Wildcat” commemorating our 50th year reunion,.  She will have some made with Mora’s logo as well, neat stuff.

 

Ron Manabe’s menu group will finalize the buffet and select an assortment of appetizers.

 

Program committee is developing quizzes, antidotes, possibly live entertainment from classmates, and recognition to our Vets and deceased classmates.

 

Currently 200+ people registered.

 

Sea Cliff Inn -Our hold on rooms at the Sea Cliff Inn has expired. Special thank you to Sue and Pete Harris who worked with Sea Cliff on the rooms.  Sue and Pete also arranged for our planning meeting sites and donated the cost of using the sites for the meetings.

 

Video/Photography - We have asked Kathy Meidl’s son to video the events, awaiting confirmation.  He did the video for ’63 and, I believe, ’64.  We are looking for someone to take a professional group picture of the class on Saturday night.

 

LAST MEETING: AUGUST 29TH, 12:00 Noon at the Scotts Valley Library.  This is a very important meeting.  We will be finalizing our plans and getting ready for a great 50th year reunion.
