Betty Sue Phillips joined our Lord in heaven Friday, February 26, 2016.

Betty was born June 10, 1947. She was born and raised in Watsonville, California. She lived with her daughter in Monterey County the last few years of her life. She graduated from Watsonville High School in 1965 and attended Cabrillo College. She worked all her life, finally retired as a CNA providing private home care. She was a truly caring angel, often going above and beyond to help those in need. She had a beautiful soul and there will never be another like her.

All who knew Betty were blessed. She had a way of imprinting on your life with her strength, wisdom and love. She raised three children as a single parent and worked very hard. She was so independent. Family and loyalty were very important to her.

She loved the country life, loved water, and loved bike riding. As there are many memories her children and grandchildren can recall going on family bike rides, gatherings at home, pool parties, family ball games and camping trips at the lake. And although these activities were always so memorable, she especially enjoyed family time and being a grandmother. As she said, “It’s the icing on the cake.”

She is survived by her daughters Raquel Contreras of Oroville, CA, Andrea Contreras Garcia (Eddie) of Salinas, CA, and her son Joshua Aponte of San Jose, CA. She also leaves eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Danny Villanpando.

No funeral services will be held as she requested. Her family will honor her in a celebration of life in the near future. To all those that she knew as family or friend… Thank you and know she appreciated you and loved you. To honor Betty, please live, forgive, and most of all love.

Betty was my mothers caregiver for many years.  My Mom lived to be 101+, and was able to live out her life in her home much to the credit of Betty helping us out.  She will be greatly missed.  Sue Harris

At One of our reunions Betty sat with Jim Grady, his wife Becky and myself. She was a very sweet woman, who worked hard and love her family and grandchildren. I would see her from time to time over the years and she was always the same; so glad to see you. She will be Missed.

Regards,

Martha Souza Fagundes
