In Memory

Jim Lynn

Jim Lynn

Posted on: Oct 30, 2019 at 11:21 am by fellow classmate Jim Lopes who was a good friend to Jim Lynn throughout his life.

Sad news. I have been able to confirm that Jim Lynn has passed away. I tracked down a former neighbor who told me that he was transferred from the Barstow VA facility to a facility in Riverside because of his memory loss. He died not long after the transfer. The neighbor and others scattered his ashes on the beach.

Jim Lopes received this message and photos about Jimmy Lynn from an old friend in Palo Alto. Thanks for sharing Jim and for letting us know more about Jimmy's life since graduation.

Thank you so much for calling and asking about Jim. It was nice to talk to someone that missed and knew him. I don’t think anyone would say that Jim was a perfect guy, but he was kind and funny and could be very charming. As I mentioned on the phone, he lived across the street from my for almost 20 years. He watched my kids grow up, and used to make a funny Donald Duck sound to get their attention if they were out in our front yard and he was over in his.

I don’t have too many pictures of him, but one of oldest ones is a scan of a photo of him in front of his family’s beach house in Aptos. He had given the photo to me for safekeeping when he did not know where is was going to live

Gone but never, ever forgotten.  Once you knew Jimmy Lynn you were his friend.  Always a smile or grin on his face. . . never took things too seriously on the outside, but we knew he was often hurting on the inside.  The ultimate jokester. . . one day he would pretend to be a CIA spy and the next day he'd be planning to go into the priesthood.  It was all in jest; all good fun and he made more people laugh than I could count.  My mom adored him and that's saying a lot.  Jimmy, you put the fun in high school for me and I will never forget you.  Love you, buddy.    Karen

I met Jimmy Lynn at E.A. Hall school in 1960.  We became good friends at that time and throughout high school.  Jimmy was a true statesman. He wanted to be a politician as well as a comedian.  I think he would have been great at either or both as he was always campaigning. He loved JFK!  Jim joined our family for our annual camping trip to Yosemite and he provided us with comedic skits around the campfire and he kept our family and friends in stitches for the weeklong event.

I loved hanging out at Jimmy's house with his mom, "Blackie" and Dad. I called him Mr. Lynn.  It was always an adventure and fun to visit with Bruce Giberson who was nearby and also a good friend of Jimmy's.  I can picture Jimmy with his button down ivy league shirt, v-neck tennis sweater, and white shorts with tennis shoes and socks.  This was his look for his entire life!

Jimmy brought much joy into my life and into the life of my family. He was entertaining, fun and he was a good friend. I am sorry I lost touch with Jimmy later in life but I was glad to learn he was loved by his neighbors and all who knew him. I will always hold fond memories of my dear friend who always made me laugh and who always was a good friend.

I first met Jimmy when he transferred to Minnie White from the local Catholic school, under some cloudy circumstances…., or at least that’s what Blackie (his Mom) said.    I enjoyed his friendship, his stories, his ambitions, his imitations, and his general being that made him such a unique character.  It’s with sadness that I look at his picture with Marilee.  I took that picture at a dinner of classmates in Palo Alto in 1994, it was the last time I saw Jimmy as we lost touch shortly thereafter.  I was happy to learn he had people who cared for him, I know that Jim Lopes was an angel to him during his entire life.  Jimmy Lynn was a fascinating guy; I was lucky to have had his friendship for many years.
